The Keys were the Prize for the Prep

girl driving from dealership
5/2/26 <-***Date I wrote this blog***

I am so excited to tell you what I did last Sunday.

Y’all are the first people I thought of and wanted to tell.

Since I am going to be traveling for work, I needed a newer, more reliable car. My heart was set on a Camry.

I looked at a few cars by owner, and then on a whim, I stopped at a dealership. I looked at three cars and went home to sleep on it.

The next day, I walked back into the dealership and said,

“I want the 2020 Toyota Camry with 26K miles.”

And within three hours… I was driving away with the keys!!! I put a good down payment down to keep my monthly payments lower. I promise I am still trying to make responsible decisions over here. 😂

Honestly, the whole time I was sitting there, I kept expecting someone from the dealership to walk into the lobby laughing and tell me to leave.

The credit application asked for three years of address history. So…

I listed my current address. Then the prisons. I am working an honest program today, so… LMAO.

I still couldn’t believe they handed me the keys.

Thursday, I got my old car detailed and signed the title over to my son. My sister picked it up for him.

I continue to pray about my relationship with my children. My sister and I are really close now.

I got my first paycheck with my big girl salary, so that was nice. Obviously, I have done my budget over and over and over again because… well… it’s me. I had to make sure I was okay. I definitely am. I can save 25% of my monthly income and still live comfortably. My youngest daughter turns sixteen next year, so I guess I better start saving for another car now!

God is so good. The moment I stop trying to force things and actually let go and let God, blessings shower me. It is crazy.

But I want you guys to know something important…

I did a lot of preparation in prison too. So start now. The most important thing I did was learn how to be happy on my own. I spent most of my time by myself, whether that was reading my Bible, playing a game, writing, or making those memory books for my kids I loved to show off. I even finished an entire self-help book in there just because it could possibly help. I was willing to try anything.

I also took my mental health seriously and did my best to address my codependency because drugs were only one issue of many. There were so many other things I had to face.

I am nowhere near perfect. I was literally just crying because my dude pissed me off. Still human over here.

But at the end of the day, I have a life I never imagined having less than six months after walking out.

And I need you to hear this:

You can have it too.

Love you.
